HUNGRY HEADS, Knysna

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Can Hungry Heads Catering please stop being so delicious, everytime I see their van, with their orange tounge logo, I go into a zombie daze and I want to hang around incase they are handing out freebies or even sloppy seconds.

Every function I have been to in Knysna has been graced with their gourmet catering, they are unstopable – weddings, business launches, picnics, birthdays, oyster festival, staff christmas dinners, decadent chocolate birthday cake and their very own food brand, with their famous logo, is what’s taking this company the extra mile.

I once asked the owner,Tammy, if she was thinking of opening up her own restaurant and she smiled, looked down, then up and said, “We will see, anything is possible”, more positive words could not be spoken out of the Hungry mouth, a talented yet growing catering genius. I look forward to that restaurant but in the meantime I place orders directly with Tammy or Candice for my Hungry Heads Fig Preserve & homemade Pistaccio or Chocolate ice-cream, to name a few. Their various gourmet cooking themes can be learnt at their factory when they run cooking classes, I had the pleasure of being taught Moroccan culinary on my Valentines day – a very special gift indeed.

My hungry tummy thanks the Greek God of Harvest that Hungry Heads was born and is here to stay, Hail Sushi!

DoubleSHOT, Plett

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

A new coffee bar that will leave a european taste in your mouth, if not a great healthy saamie or delicious chocolate swiss roll taste, is Doubleshot Coffee Shop. Located in between the hussle and bussle of The Square lifestye & shopping centre, Plettenbergbay.

The menu is straight forward and you will definitely go back because the coffee, she is goooood. I had a cappacinno that was perfect and was given a token card which is like an insentive to come back for more and after a few cups, take-away or stay, you are rewarded a free coffee of your choice, yummy.

The girls who own the shop make the coffee and run the show, they have taken the concept of coffee bars to a level of simple yet sophisticated creativity that reveals fresh food everyday, sweet tooth therapy and did i mention gooood coffee. The large coffee table is shared by all who visit and is graced with newspapers or just locals chit chatting, so you can take your pick…bon apetito!

Emily Moon – Plett

My favourite restaurant for any special occasion, like Birthdays or Mothers Day etc, has to undoubtedly be Emily Moon, in Plett.
Who could resist Emily’s flare for good food & wine, which is reasonably priced, coupled with a view to take your breath away, not just any usual blue sea with white sand view, not that we could get sick of that, but just simply a view that no-one can ever forget – a view that every geologist would travel half way across the world for – a perfect and peaceful Oxbow Lake.

Emily Moon offers binoculars on their deck for the more inquisitive guests, besides the view of the entire lake from high up, one can bird watch or if you quick at the draw, you can try spot a buck or two in the wild. For me I just love the fact that Emily Moon’s food and Indonesian-African inspired decor is as awesome as their professional service, bonus the Oxbow lake with lush mountainous back drop, all which add to the magic that makes Emily Moon a very special place to write home about – and add photos too. A definite MUST!

If you want to stay for a few days more, they also offer a bed and breakfast facility which is top quality and each room boasts a view of the oxbow lake.
